Session Description: Difficult conversations are part of every workplace, but many managers delay them, soften them to the point of confusion, or avoid them altogether. This session will explore practical ways to approach challenging conversations with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Participants will learn how to prepare for difficult conversations, communicate concerns directly without escalating tension, listen for what may be driving the other person’s response, and keep the discussion focused on facts, expectations, and next steps.
Attendees will leave with practical techniques they can use to address performance concerns, workplace conflict, sensitive feedback, and other uncomfortable conversations before small issues become bigger ones.

Speaker: Joe Rotella
Speaker Bio: Joe Rotella is a leading thinker and professional speaker in business strategy, continuous performance management, and HR technology. He serves as Chief Value Officer (CVO) for Delphia Consulting, LLC, a national consulting firm based in Columbus, Ohio.Joe has over 30 years of experience and is the Vice President of Development for the Human Resources Association of Central Ohio (HRACO). Joe is the co-creator of miviva – a solution to help an organization set and track goals and KPIs. Joe has two patents-pending for the use of AI in performance management analysis.
One of Joe’s many hobbies is mixed media art. His work has appeared in numerous magazines, including Somerset Studio Gallery. He has served on many design teams, taught thousands of students in classes at large events such as Gen Con, and is a frequent guest on Make It Artsy which airs on PBS TV and Create TV. Joe is also a 2nd Associate Master of Ohara Ikebana, the art of Japanese floral arrangement, and head of the Central Ohio Ohara Ikebana Chapter in Columbus, OH.
